This is a sleek HDD enclosure that one would want to put it on top of his or her computer desk. However, the noise coming from the working hard drive is noticeable unless you place it far away from you or under your desk. By doing that you would lose easy access to the power switch. I even chose to use the rubber feet stands, expecting they would provide some type of noise reduction. No significant improvement. Maybe my WD drives are louder than others. I don't know about that since I love WD HDDs and don't own other brands. I don't play games or watch video. I'm a CAD designer, working mostly in 2D which is not very demanding on the display adapters. For this kind of mostly "static" display, the Dynadock's Display Link (USB) feed is more than adequate. The convenience of having a very large desktop for keeping reference materials visible is why I bought this. (It takes a multiple monitors to actually work "paperless!") I can successfully utilize three displays on my Toshiba laptop, the built-in 17", one of those new Samsung 22" laptop displays (which I really like, by the way,) and an older 1600x1200 Viewsonic. The DynaDock handles screen rotation really well I think, as I sometimes use the Viewsonic in portrait mode.

I can deal with the size mismatches, having learned over time to align the bottom edges of all the displays (works pretty well for me anyway).

My one major gripe about the DynaDock is when my laptop display goes to sleep (not suspended or hibernating). For the life of me I cannot figure out a way to bring the Dynadock display back to life without rebooting, which is simply unworkable. Toshiba's "support" site is, as is typical, completely useless. You'd think that for them to offer actual help would be like admitting something is wrong with their product. Support has never been their strong suit.

Does anyone have any idea how to get the display working again after the screensaver (blank screen) kicks in? If I can't solve this, I'll be back to give it zero stars because I won't be able to continue using it at all.

As far as my impressions of the device overall ... well, somebody else said it succinctly: it's a fancy USB hub with the added features of the Display Link, Ethernet, and audio. It will not charge your laptop battery.
